Sherman Kent collection, 1814-1848, [microform].

Lists of enfranchised voters in 85 of the 86 departments of France during the reign of Louis Philippe, 1830-1848, and electoral lists for the Restoration period, 1814-1830. The electoral lists were collected by Sherman Kent, who also prepared the index to the lists. Included in the finding aid is a typescript of "Electoral Lists of France's July Monarchy, 1830-48," written by Kent.

Sherman Kent was born on December 1, 1903, attended the Thacher School, and received his Ph.B. (1926) and Ph.D. (1933) from Yale University. He taught French history at Yale and was a member of the faculty from 1928-1953. In 1941 Kent joined the U.S. Office of Strategic Services as chief of the African section and from 1943-1945 served as chief of the Europe-Africa division.
